1st Annual General Meeting - FWG July 2026 Meeting
2026 has been a year of change & transition for the Foothills Writer's Group. From the resignation of our Founder & former President, with the introduction of our new President, with the new Website, with the new focus on Community Outreach, with the expanding the scope & scale of the group's ambitions, it's been quite a year so far.
But that doesn't mean we're done. There's still a lot of work left to do to make Foothills Writer's Group the best community organization it can be!
As such, the big project for the FWG in July is pursuing formal incorporation as a Non-Profit Society in Alberta! While this may seem pointless or needless, becoming a registered society will make it easier for the FWG to:
- Manage the FWG's finances,
- Apply for grants offered to local artistic organizations/groups,
- Allow for the smooth transition of FWG leadership,
- Clarify the goals & objectives of the FWG,
- Effectively coordinate & achieve the FWG's stated goals & objectives
All of this will make it significantly easier for the FWG to operate effectively, accomplish our goals more easily, and expand our horizons going into the future!
Annual General Meeting
The agenda for the FWG's 1st Annual General Meeting (AGM) is straightforwards.
- Vote on the FWG's Board of Directors; President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary
- Establish & Vote on the Foothills Writer's Group bylaws
- Fill out & submit the formal society incorporation paperwork
However, we also want to establish some expectations & traditions at our 1st AGM for our future meetings. An AGM is an opportunity for members to speak to the Leadership of the FWG about their ideas, give feedback to the FWG's leadership, or step up to help the FWG with their own time & effort. If you are interested in:
- Volunteering to become a Board Member of the FWG,
- Volunteering as a Coordinator for the FWG,
- Giving input on FWG bylaws and/or feedback to FWG leadership,
- Voting on membership fees, board members, or bylaws,
- Presenting your ideas for activities, projects, or events for the FWG,
- Volunteering to lead an activity, project, or event for the FWG
Then please feel free to attend! We're always keen to hear feedback from our members and from our community as a whole!
